Our mission and vision

In today's fast-paced world, people often overlook traditional beliefs, cultures, and their inner selves. At Niru Yoga Homestay and Retreat Center, we strive to preserve the rich traditions of Nepal and consider it an honor to share them with our guests. Come to our humble abode, where we will provide you with delicious Nepalese food prepared in the traditional manner. You will indulge in its flavors, leaving refreshed and reconnected to your inner self.

Yoga is For Everyone

Yoga is a strengthening and empowering practice that offers something for everybody, regardless of their age or fitness level. Yogi Ragan works hard to create an inclusive space where everyone feels accepted. We express this core belief through our classes, where we welcome all levels from beginner to advanced. By offering different variations we can challenge our guests while providing results that benefit both body and mind regardless of their ability.

OUR STORY

Niru Yoga Homestay — Home Before Earthquake

In 2015, I (Yogi Rajan) was practicing yoga, working, and living with the family in Rishikesh, India when our home in Nepal was hit with a large earthquake. It was always my dream to bring the ashram and yoga experience back to Nepal and this catastrophic event provided the perfect opportunity to make my dream a reality. We quickly returned to our village and began rebuilding our home. Niru Yoga Homestay welcomed its first guests in 2017. We started as a simple homestay that invited guest to experience village life, Nepali culture, and the surrounding nature. At the start, we served our guests from the simple cottage behind our house and taught yoga classes from the rooftop of our old building. Within a year we constructed the bones of the yoga hall we now use. It was humble, but it was our family's commitment to provide warmth and care that made our guests feel at home. Even with the simple things we offered, we were excited to see how many guests from all parts of the world were excited to visit us. With passion, determination, and love we slowly developed into a fully functioning retreat. We soon were able to construct the second floor of the house where our guests currently stay. We built a campfire area, a sauna bath, and more recently a glass patio. I am proud of my family and grateful to all of our guests for helping me make my dream into a reality.

WHERE IS NIRU YOGA HOMESTAY

The homestay is nestled in the picturesque village of Nagarkot, located in Nepal's captivating Kathmandu Valley. Just 22km away from Kathmandu airport, Nagarkot offers a tranquil escape from the bustling city life. Situated a mere 4km from the esteemed world heritage site of Bhaktapur, it serves as an ideal base for exploration. Additionally, a short 10km drive will transport you to the hilltop, renowned for its awe-inspiring sunrise and sunset vistas, as well as breathtaking views of the snow-capped Himalayas.

WHO IS NIRU

Niru hails from a rural village in Nepal, where she developed a strong foundation in traditional farming practices. Throughout her life, she has also ventured into the field of social work. Niru is happily married and a loving mother to two children. Among the guests, she is renowned for her warm smile and exceptional hospitality. She takes immense pleasure in preparing delectable meals for her guests and ensuring their well-being in every possible way.

OUR GARDEN

The homestay strives to provide nourishing, clean, and tasty vegetarian food during our yoga and hiking retreat. We source about 75% of our food (depending on the season) directly from our own organic garden. Most of the organic food comes from the homestay’s farm, ensuring freshness and quality.

During our yoga and hiking retreat we serve three meals a day of freshly cooked Nepali style vegetarian food. The kitchen accommodates any special dietary needs. Guests interested in learning how to prepare the food can assist in the kitchen.

The menu varies daily and typically includes a variety of dishes. If you have special dietary requirements, please communicate them to the organizer when making a reservation.

SAMPLE MEALS

Ayurvedic herbal teas, coffee, porridge with dates and raisins or coconut, bananas, papaya, or chickpeas.

Other breakfast offerings may include samosa, pancake, parantha, uppama, and Nepalese breakfast.

Dal (Lentil), Bhat (rice) vegetables (pumpkin, carrot, cauliflower, peas, spinach, mushroom, etc.), Roti (bread). Khichadi (Mix rice with vegetables)

Everything about our stay at the Niru Yoga Homestay exceeded my expectations.Rajan has such great energy - his yoga classes are invigorating and his sound healing skills are unmatched. His family has been in the area for generations and you can feel his deep connection to and love of his village and homeland as he takes you on some of the most beautiful hikes you’ve ever experienced.Niru is the most welcoming and generous host, she cared for all of us as if we were her own family. She’s so chipper and has a song to accompany each meal and tea time. And her cooking is unparalleled - I don’t think I’ve ever eaten so much or so well in my entire life.I will be back, and I HIGHLY recommend the Niru Yoga Homestay if you’re planning on coming to the area. And if you’re not planning on it, you should be!

After a long hike I stayed at this yoga Homestay. It was the perfect combination of relaxation and activity to recover physically and mentally.I was welcomed as if I were family and I was treated like a guest. The homemade food was amazing and most of it derived from their own garden.The Yoga classes twice a day in the yoga hall (different building in the garden) with a perfectly balanced intensity.Highly recommended to stay here!

I spontaneously decided to join the yoga and meditation single-day package, and it turned out to be a truly transformative experience. From the moment I arrived, I was warmly welcomed by Rajan and his family, instantly making me feel at home. The lush, rolling green mountains surrounding the center provided the perfect serene and tranquil backdrop.Rajan is one of the most genuine, kind, and talented individuals I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. His expertise in yoga is remarkable, and I had an amazing experience with him as my instructor. As a beginner, I appreciated his supportive approach, which guided me through a wonderful session.We also hiked to a local waterfall and crossed a suspension bridge, where the breathtaking views left me in awe. I've never encountered such stunning beauty in my life.Although I was there for just a day, I was delighted to have a spacious room with an ensuite. It was immaculately clean, and having access to a shower and bed was a refreshing way to cool off and rest after our hike.Niru is an outstanding cook—prepare to be well-fed! Her meals offer an authentic taste of Nepali cuisine, made with fresh ingredients grown right on the property. You can truly feel the love and care she puts into each dish.This experience allowed me to see the heart of Nepal, and I felt honored to immerse myself in the local culture. I cannot recommend Niru Yoga highly enough; you will undoubtedly leave feeling rejuvenated, both physically and mentally. Being passionate about Yoga, I chose Nepal for my solo holiday.Searching on Instagram for #yoganepal I accidentally found this special place to start my journey (I chose the 6-day detox package) and where I also wanted to return for another 3 days and end this fabulous holiday on a high note. The guest rooms are very cute and very clean.Being low season I was the only guest and I was able to enjoy private yoga lessons with Rajan, a great yoga master, a fantastic and kind person with whom I got along very well. It's impossible to tell all the beautiful details and how much I enjoyed his lessons, I can definitely say that in these 6 days I felt very light and I understood what are the really important and necessary things to be happy. I hope to always carry all this with me.It was wonderful to trek in the surrounding area, where we can enjoy spectacular views, temples in the midst of nature, all accompanied by the sounds of animals, rain and a very emotional silence. During my stay I had the pleasure of meeting my grandparents and also many family friends, all people who fill your heart with positive energy.I want to thank this family for welcoming me like a daughter, especially his wife Niru, a very sweet person with whom I was lucky enough to spend time talking and listening to love songs and getting emotional together, I really miss singing "tea" together time" and drink your fabulous and unique black tea. Without a shadow of a doubt the best cook in all of Nepal, every day she manages to surprise you with her tasty and colorful dishes.At Niru Yoga Homestay guests can enjoy vegetarian food, a large variety of fruits and vegetables grown right in their garden full of fabulous plants.Heartfelt thanks also to daughter Nikita who dedicated her time to me to go trekking together, talk about our lives, laugh and confide in each other. Rajan is a very good yoga teacher and Niru makes a great cup of tea. The room was clean and comfortable and the family were very nice. From day one only day 3 I felt a great difference in my flexibility from the Yoga.

What a special place! The family treats you like truly being a part of it. Their energy is just beautiful and you will always be welcomed with a smiling and shining face. The love and effort they put into their work and their home is so inspiring and beautiful. The yoga classes are very nice, the hikes combine beautiful walks with learning more about the history/culture/story of Nepal. The food is more than amazing and every meal is a true delight. I spent 2 weeks at Niru Yoga home stay. It was the most amazing home stay I have ever experienced. Everything was just perfect. The yoga classes, the home and the hiking area were amazing. Rajan is an amazing human being and yoga teacher and Niru is an amazing cook who make you feel like you are part of the family. I have never eaten so yummy and tasty food before. They really make you feel like you are at home. I was there during the rainy season but it was sunny almost everyday and we hiked every day. I did the Prana Shakti yoga course wich I highly recommend. I learned a lot about yoga and myself. I really highly recommend you to have this amazing experience.
